Nigerian government has cleared the freedom of Zainab Aliyu. She was arrested in Saudi Arabia for alleged drug trafficking. The second Nigerian involved in the case is Ibrahim Abubakar.

The government was able to defend their innocence in the case, and they will be released tomorrow to the Nigerian Mission in Saudi Arabia.

Zainab, a student of Maitama Sule University, Kano, was arrested after a banned drug (tramadol) was found in her bag. She claimed she don’t know who dropped the drug in her luggage.

She travelled from Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport with her mother, Mrs. Maryam Aliyu, and sister, Hajara Aliyu, for Lesser Hajj in Dec. 2018 but was detained over allegations that a bag bearing her name tag contained the unlawful substance.

Following President Buhari’s directives to the Attorney General of the Federation to intervene into the case and ensure their release.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Diaspora Affairs Abike Dabiri Erewa, also assured Nigerians that they were making good progress and she will be back, along with 2 others in the same situation.
