The 2018 world cup which is the 21st edition is being hosted in Russia this summer. The first match of the world cup has been scheduled to kick-off on Thursday, June 14 2018 which will be between the host Country-Russia and Saudi Arabia at the Luzhniki Stadium, which is also to be the venue for the final. Friendly matches were played between countries at the last quarter of the year 2017, which includes the match between Nigeria and Argentina
It was a really shocking thing to see Albiceleste of Argentina lose to the Super Eagles of nigeria in the match played on 14th of November, 2017. It was truly an unexpected turn as Argentina scored the first goal but it ended in Super Eagles victory scoring four goals to two.
So the question now is ‘if Nigeria was able to defeat the well-known skillful Argentina players, how far will they be able to go in the 2018 world cup?’ The Super Eagles victory brought upon them and Nigerians the courage and mindset that it is possible to go as far as winning the world cup.
Also, the House of Representatives Committee of Sports has said that they believe the Eagles could win the world Cup and pledged their support to the national team as they go to Russia to win the Cup. The Nigeria Football Federation officials have been commended for the thorough efforts put in transforming the Country’s football. The Chairman of the Committee, Goni Bukar Lawan said the Panel would do all within its power to support the NFF to realize its goals which include making the Super Eagles perform excellently at the world Cup.
The President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Ahmad Ahmad said Nigeria can make history in the 2018 world cup as ‘Nigeria is the strongest team from Africa going to the world Cup’. He said much is expected of the Super Eagles and believe they will make Africa proud.
June is just around the corner and the most popular world event of the year will soon take place. Almost everyone is anticipating the outcome. One thing for sure is that the Super Eagles are being thoroughly trained so we can support by having faith in them and their ability to perform greatly.
